Missouri Credit Volume Patents

The Harrison Land Act of 1800, passed on May 15, 1800, and also known as the Land Act of 1800, introduced a credit system for the purchase of public lands, allowing settlers in the Northwest Territory to pay in installments. It lowered the minimum purchasable land amount from 640 to 320 acres and required a one-fourth down payment, with the balance to be paid over four years. The goal was to make land more accessible to encourage settlement.
